Philanthropy

Philanthropy is very important at the Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. It is an outward expression of our dedication to the Principles of Value and Benefit.

Adopt-A-Highway
Sigma Tau Gamma adopted a two mile stretch of highway just outside of Kirksville city limits. As a fraternity we clean this scenic road four times a year, twice in the spring and twice in the fall. We also adopted a mile stretch of road inside the city limits that we clean four times a year as well.

Books for Kids
This is a Sigma Tau Gamma nationally founded philanthropy event where individual chapters of the fraternity hold fund raisers or book drives to raise books for underprivileged children. This community service project is one way Sigma Tau Gamma Beta Chapter uphold the key principles that this fraternity was founded on, learning and benefit.
 

Habitat for Humanity
The men of Beta Chapter are glad to participate in Kirksville's chapter of Habitat for Humanity. While not a fraternity sanctioned philanthropy, many members choose to participate on their own free will.
 

Special Olympics
The men of Sigma Tau Gamma Beta Chapter are also involved with Special Olympics here at Truman State. Every year Sig Tau is asked to help set up for the upcoming all day long events. Members also participate in the buddy program, where they hang out with an athlete the whole time. It is a very unique experience.

The Walk
Every fall, the men of Sigma Tau Gamma Beta Chapter raise money for our local charity, Northeastern American Citizens with Disabilities (NACD). We go door-to-door collecting money from the community to sponsor us to walk from a few miles outside Kirksville back to our fraternity house in our underwear spreading awareness for the organization, hence the name “From here to there, in our underwear.”

Up 'Til Dawn
St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, TN is a free hospital for children with cancer. St. Jude sponsors their own philanthropy called Up Till Dawn, in which campuses across the nation raise money for the hospital. In Up Till Dawn's first year here at Truman, the men of Sigma Tau Gamma were the only all male organization represented. The men of Beta chapter helped Truman raise over $70,000 for St. Jude Research Hospital.
